There had long been rumors of oil in Long Beach.  When Shell Oil hit Pay dirt in 1921 Drillers & Roughnecks poured in from all over the world and a full blown oil boom hit the whole area. Eventually over a Billion Barrels of Oil came from the Signal Hill Hill field which provided the money that built Long Beach.  Hear first hand accounts from people who were there when they struck oil.
